Jake Baumert of Lovejoy (Lucas, Texas) High School, signed with the United States Military Academy on Wednesday. Look inside for a photo and quotes from Baumert.

The 6-foot-3, 295-pound offensive lineman committed to Black Knight recruiting coach Kevin Corless on July 18th, 2014 after a summer camp at West Point led to an offer.

“About halfway through spring ball Coach Corless came down to talk to me about football and West Point. When I was on campus, I was just real impressed with the how efficiently the coaches ran things. I liked the new head coach a lot. I think he’s bringing in a whole new attitude to the program and is going to turn things around quickly there. The facilities they have are outstanding. All of that led me to my decision to commit.”

Army was Jake Baumert’s only D-1 offer at the time of his commitment.

“Army likes that I’m a bigger lineman. I think Coach Monken is going to be going after bigger guys from now on. I consider myself a great run blocker with aggressiveness and good hip and knee bend pus I can stay low and put people on their back.”

Baumert project at offensive guard at the college level, but has played offensive tackle. As a senior, he was recognized as a unanimous choice for first team All-District (Texas 5A Region II District 10) for the second straight season. He is the son of Susan and Craig Baumert, and has a brother, Austin, who is a Marine. It has not yet been determined if his appointment will be to West Point or to USMAPS.
