When visionary architect László Toth and his wife Erzsébet flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America, their lives are forever changed by a mysterious and wealthy client. Filming took place over 34 days. It was filmed in Budapest, Hungary and Carrara, Italy. The Brutalist:The Brutalist is a painting that comes to life on screen.
It’s as if Vincent Van Gogh created this absolute masterpiece
Subtle but very effective and powerful with the sound design and score. Not to mention the stunning cinematography, every frame comes to life before your eyes. I can’t speak highly enough of Brady Corbett and his vision here. The fact that this is an original is truly a testament to how the film industry should be run.
Such a deep and powerful story
The Brutalist is a grounded story that takes you to emotional places I wasn’t prepared to go. I’m glad this movie is 3 hours and 35 minutes long, because it earns its right to take the time to tell the story. And it’s a pure three and a half hour cinematic experience. I sat there for every scene in pure awe.
To the acting
This is how you make a movie. Adrien Brody teaches a master class in acting. It’s all there for you to witness, the screaming scenes, the subtle moments and gestures, the look in his eyes. I don’t think I’ve seen this level of acting in one film in a while.
Guy Pearce is absolutely amazing, at times downright terrifying
Felicity Jones comes into the story later than I thought she would have, and then some. Brady Corbet is a visionary, and I look forward to seeing many more of his projects. The Brutalist = 9.8/10.. From Alien: Romulus to Road House, take a look back at some of our favorite posters of 2024.
